What should you pack for a trip to Connecticut?

* Think about how many clothes, toiletries, books/magazines, etc you go through in a week at home. * Use that as a starting point, adjusting based on the size of your suitcase and the strictness of dress at your destination. In general, the suburbs are the most flexible, whereas city and rural areas are more specific in expectations of dress. * Unless you have specific plans to go hiking or attend a dress party, leave those items at home-- you'll never use them. * Try to pack items that are adaptable for multiple uses. For example, skin moisturizer can double as hair balm, and long underwear can serve as pajamas. * Bring one more pair of socks than you think you'll need. * Bring a travel alarm clock if you can't use your cell for this purpose. * If the trip is one week long, pack for a wide variety of weather conditions: 1) There will likely be a 30 degree difference in high temperatures over the course of the week, at least 2 days will have a 30 degree difference between high and low temperature that day, and two days will likely have a high-low difference of less than 10 degrees.

2) There will be an average of one inch of precipitation over the course of the week-- bring a spare jacket and a spare pair of shoes. Pack an umbrella or brimmed hat. (The umbrella will be of no use in the winter, even if it is raining-- too windy.)

3) If the trip is in the summer, assume there will be very high humidity, so pack a spare bandanna, and some insect repellent, as well.
