which country is most often phoned by australians
They don't. The two most highly populated states are New South Wales and Victoria. People do like Queensland, though, for its better climate, since it doesn't get bitterly cold in Winter. They like the fact that water sports can be enjoyed almost all year around.

Any answer would be largely opinion-based. It would appeal to most interested in sport, as are most other sports. Well-known sports, similar to Australian football, might be rugby, Irish football and, to a lesser degree, American football. The types of people that like those sports would ordinarily be attracted to 'footy', as Australians often call it. It has often been dubbed a 'family game' - like many other sports. If one were to distinguish it from the bulk of sports, it is more of a rough and tumble game than most. In general terms, it is not for 'the faint-hearted'.
