They almost double their weight before their migration to Southern Mexico and Central America, so you might be able to keep them a bit longer by feeding them fruit (1/2 orange tacked to a board or tree is good) and nectar (same as humming bird nectar, sugar and water in a 1 to 4 ratio). Do not add anything else such as color or honey to the nectar. To help maintain the birds' health, clean the feeder and replace the nectar if it turns at all cloudy.

Depends on the time of year; they migrate quite a bit. I recently went to Africa on a safari and saw them migrating it was an amazing experience.
