Africa is a huge place and spans a number of climatic and geological zones.

Vegetation ranges from desert (e.g. the Sahara Desert) through Savannah grasslands, swamps to sub-tropical and tropical jungles. Aspect ranges from coastal areas to high snow capped mountains (such as Kilimanjaro). There are thousands of indigenous plant species.

To typify the vegetation is difficult, however, some of the more famous or well know plant species that are found on the African continent include:

Acacia - Tree, probably the most iconic of African trees, there are over 100 species and they are found across Africa.

African Violets

Agapanthus

Aloe - Arid areas

Amarula - Tree (Sclerocarya birrea)

Asparagus spp

Baobab - Tree (Adansonia)

Cliva - Lily

Coffee - Shrub (Coffea arabica)

Cycad/ Encephalartos -

Date Palm

Erica - Mountain sides

Gerbera spp.

Olea spp. - Olives trees etc.

Protea - Mountain sides

Screw Pine - (Pandanus spp.)

Silver leaf tree - Leucodendron spp.

Strelitzea spp. - Shrub

Traveller's Palm (Ravenala madagascariensis)

Welwitschia - Desert plant

The above plants don't all grow in the same areas, but offer a cross-section of the plants that are found in Africa. The above excludes agricultural planting, which itself is diverse.
