Short story;

It was a nice little farmer's country, with some forestry and other small buisness. Oh, and a massive fishing/trading fleet.

due to the general geography of the country, very few areas were very well suited for large grain fields and other pruduce you would have found in abundance in countries like Denmark at the time (Norway = full of mountains, Denmark = rediculously flat).

As a result, there were more and smaller farms, rather than fewer and bigger. You would still find large farms in norway, with entire families living there (grandmothers, cousins of the main family, you know: the whole package)

everything was running smoothly like this, up until summer 1349. At that time, a trade ship from england came in to one of norways major trading hubs, Bergen, had brought with it "The black death". This was a plague that wiped out approximately 2/3 of Norways entire population, and utterly devastated the country.

Then, around 1380, the danes were so kind as to claim the weakened Norway for Denmark, because they could.

Long story short :P
