After the French and Indian War the Natives saw the French defeat as a loss also for the Natives. Therfore, the Ottawa leader Pontiac decided to rebel and capture 8 British forts. With these conflicts between the natives and them Parliment did not want future conflict with the natives. This, in turn, angered settlers and cause them to rebel, therefore being one of the reasons for the American Revolution. After the U.S. gained its independence, it was considered in the way of manifest destiny.

The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued by King George III on October 9, 1763. The proclamation forbade colonial settlers from settling west of the Appalachian Mountains. This would allow Great Britain to organize newly acquired territories and establish relations with Native North Americans in these areas. The proclamation also established government for Quebec, Grenada, East Florida, and West Florida.
