People from all over the world flocked to California to pick up the nuggets that were the size of a man's fist, just lying around out in the open. It certainly must have affected the world's gold/precious metals market.

The California Gold Rush most certainly negatively affected the Yahi tribe's ability to hunt and fish in their historical home territory. Their population was estimated to be about 400 when gold was discovered in 1848. The tribe's last known Survivor, believed to have been born around 1860, passed away in 1911.
