The Morant Bay rebellion of 1865 was caused by the conditions in which ex-slaves lived. There were food shortage, crown land laid idle while the people had no land for farming as they would be prosecuted if they trespass in these land. No Job or proper health care, no schools were provided. Governor Eyre ruled with a iron fist paid no attention to the needs of the people. Letters were sent to England to the Queen who was advised that the allegations where not true. She in-turn responded that the ex-slaves should work harder, when news had back to the people of Morant Bay they felt that England did not care for the situation that is what started the rebellion.

The Morant Bay Rebellion, which took place in Jamaica in 1865, stemmed from widespread social and economic grievances among the formerly enslaved population. After the abolition of slavery, many freed people faced poverty, landlessness, and oppressive labor conditions, causing frustration and discontent. The immediate catalyst for the rebellion was the harsh punishment of a local black man for a minor offense, which sparked protests that escalated into violence. The colonial government's harsh response further fueled the uprising, highlighting the deep-seated racial and economic inequalities in post-emancipation Jamaica.
Paul Bogle died in Morant Bay, Jamaica, on October 24, 1865. He was a prominent leader of the Morant Bay Rebellion, which sought to address social and economic injustices faced by the black population in Jamaica. Bogle was captured and executed by the colonial authorities, and his death became a symbol of resistance against oppression in the country. His legacy is commemorated in Jamaican history as a significant figure in the fight for justice and equality.
