Orchard Field was renamed O'Hare International Airport in 1949.
Ordway is actually an airport in Colorado. "ORD" is O'hare because it was Orchard Field before it was O'hare.
The airport was first built by local groups with a different name for the airport. But in 1921, it was renamed to Wold-Chamberlain Field and in 1944 it was renamed to Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Airport/Wold-Chamberlain Field. But the main terminal was built in '62 and the current was built in 2001.
Before Chicago's largest airport was named O'Hare, it was known as Orchard Field. That's where the FAA designation ORD originated.
