The last significant hurricane to impact San José del Cabo, Mexico, was Hurricane Olivia, which made landfall in September 2018. While Olivia weakened to a tropical storm before reaching the area, it still brought heavy rainfall and strong winds. Since then, the region has been relatively unaffected by major hurricanes, although it remains vulnerable during the Atlantic hurricane season. I believe Hurricane Rita in late Sept. 2005 was the last Cat 5 to threaten the Gulf Of Mexico. Wilma came close, a month later, but only skirted the gulf before heading towards south Florida.
There is a hurricane season on both the Pacific and the Atlantic from June 1 trough November 30, each year. As such, there has been at least one tropical storm or hurricane passing trough Mexico every year for the last 100 years.
