When did the legal drinking age in Alabama from 21 to 19?

August 1, 1987. Previous to this purchase of beer ONLY was legal to those born before August 1, 1968; they were "grandfather claused" in. This means there was a period of time in Ohio where one 19 year old could continue to buy beer, while one born the same year would be denied.

I know this firsthand because I was born July 7, 1968; I was able to buy beer at 19, while several of my friends the exact same age could not.

The present ( 2010 ) age is 19 , Ontario lowered the drinking age from 21 to 18 in the summer of 1971. I know because my eldest brother's 21st birthday was on June 23 , 1971 , and the drinking age was lowered that summer, much to his chagrin.

Michigan's legal drinking age was changed from 21 to 18 in 1972. This took place because the "Age of Majority" was changed to 18 that year. Since a person was legally responsible for him/lherself at age 18, it was argued that they should be allowed to purchase alcohol.

It was upped to age 19 on Dec 3 1978, then changed back to age 21 on December 21st of the same year; just 18 days later.

The minimum drinking age in Alabama is 21. Alabama lowered its minimum drinking age from 21 to 19 years in 1970 and raised it from 19 to 21 in 1986.
