After his expedition in search of the Seven Cities of Gold, Francisco Vázquez de Coronado traveled through present-day New Mexico, Texas, and into parts of Arizona and Kansas. He explored the Grand Canyon and the Great Plains but ultimately found no riches. His journey ended in disappointment, and he returned to Mexico City in 1542, where he faced criticism for the lack of success in his expedition.
