Basalt is mined at Mt Sylvia in southeast Queensland. It is also mined at the Bunbury basalt mine at Gelorup in Western Australia. It is quarried in smaller quantities at various other locations.

"The Basalt Mine" in eastern New South Wales is not a basalt mine, but an open cut gold mine.
