Yes, Latvia is a country in Eastern Europe. It is one of the three Baltic States, located on the eastern shore of the Baltic Sea, bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, and Belarus to the southeast. The capital city is Riga, which is known for its historic architecture and vibrant culture.
The countries the Germans effected by the Holocaust were: Poland, Norway, Finland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, France,Yugoslavia,Germany,Estonia, and Lativia. Switzerland was a safe place to get away from the Nazi's.
Both nations are now part of the EU and have come long strides from the Soviet Times. You are safe to travel in both of them. They are not criminal nations and have the same political system and laws as large nations i.e. USA, UK. I personally have traveled through both by myself for 4 months with not so much as an uncomfortable situation or feeling of being unsafe. Although I do recommend Lithuania a little more. It has come a little more then Latvia in terms of development from the Soviet times and the people are a little more open well rounded towards travelers and visitors then that of Latvia. Although Latvia is a gorgeous nations.
Directly conquered they are: Poland, Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, France, Norway, Yugoslavia, Greece, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bylorussia, Ukraine, Crimea, Allied to Germany but under his control were, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland. Also you must count Austria, and Czechoslovakia. If you count Italian possessions, then it expands to Italy, Sicily, Albania, Abyssinia, Libiya, and portions of North Africa. So, Germany had 17 plus 5 allies, Italy had 2 1/2 (the half being portions of North Africa. Sicily was part of Italy)
Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who became the leader of the National Socialist German Workers Party, more popularly known as the Nazi Party in 1921. They were extremists with very radical views. They believed in the "superior race" - the Aryans, the ones who were the most pure and the most perfect humans above all others.By declaring the need to seize more Lebensraum ("living space") for Germany, he began World War II in 1939 when he marched into Poland. He continued marching into Sweden, Norway, Luxemburg, France, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Czecoslovakia, Romania, Austria, Hungary, Lithuania, Lativia, Estonia, Ukraine, Belo-Russia, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Albania, Greece, and Japan. Within three years of the start of the war, Germany and the Axis powers occupied most of Europe and parts of northern Africa, East and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Ocean. However, the Allies gained the upper hand in 1942 and in 1945, the Allied armies invaded Germany.During this war, his forces committed many atrocities, all in order to create the Aryan race of his dreams - white people, light colored hair, and blue eyes. In order to create his "supreme race", he eliminated all homosexuals, handicapped, Jews and Gypsies, and everyone without blond hair and blue eyes, bringing the total of innocent civilian deaths to 17 million, included the genocide of six million Jews in a event that has become to be known as the Holocaust. When the Olympics were held in Germany in one of the years he was in power, he tried to show off his Aryans. But to his surprise, an African American by the name of Jessie Owens had won the Running competition. Hitler was so mad he wouldn't even shake his hand.He married Eva Braun on the 29th of April, 1945. She was his companion and for a short time, his wife. In the end, Hitler chose to kill himself in order to escape his crimes as less than less than forty hours after their marriage, he received reports saying that the Allied forces were closing in on the bunker. He and Eva Braun committed suicide together in the Fuhrerbunker. There are some stories that suggest that Eva Braun had not wanted to commit suicide with him and that she had been forced by Hitler to bite the cyanide capsule. Other stories suggest that she had tried to attack Hitler on their wedding night in the bunker because she was a spy and assassin for the Allied forces but he caught her and poisoned her with cyanide, killing her, but because he loved her too much and also because the Allied forces were closing in on him, he killed himself, following her into death.Either way, the couple died together in the bunker at the end - and the German public was never aware of Eva Braun until her body was discovered with Hitler's in the bunker that night.
