Lake Tanganyika is located in East Africa and is bordered by four countries: Burundi to the north, Tanzania to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and Zambia to the south. It is one of the African Great Lakes and is the second deepest lake in the world. The lake lies in the East African Rift system and is situated approximately 1,400 kilometers (870 miles) long and up to 72 kilometers (45 miles) wide.
