The closest land feature to the geographical centre of Australia is not Central Mt Stuart, as the explorer John McDouall Stuart thought when he originally named it Central Mt Sturt after the explorer Charles Sturt. It is more likely to be Chambers Pillar, also named by Stuart.
Officially, there is no single point that is the geographical centre of Australia, as there are various means to calculate this.
