The Da Xing'an Ling, to use the modern Chinese Pinyin spelling, is a mountain range in northeastern China. It runs north to south, about 1200 kilometers long, separating the low grasslands of Manuchuria to its east from the higher plateau of Mongolia to the west. It is (probably soon to be WAS) heavily forested, and there are large coal reserves in the area. The average elevation is about 1200 meters, the highest peak 2035 meters.
