They were located in urban areas where homeless and destitute people lived in shanty towns. One of the largest Hoovervilles lay in the center of New York's Central Park.
Hoovervilles are area with a large concentration of homeless people. These homeless people live in places made up of random materials. I have no clue why they are called hoovervilles but we have A LOT of them here in CA especially in San Diego, San Francisco and of course LA.
