Inasmuch as "contagious disease" can be counted as a natural process, smallpox (and to a lesser extent, measles) killed off millions of Aztecs and Incas. It has however been suggested by recent research that instead of smallpox imported from Europe, an indigenous - and until then, mostly dormant - form may have been responsible: a number of the symptoms described by people at the time do not match those of the "European" smallpox.
