Saul was the first king Israel. He was anointed as the king of Israel by Prophet Samuel. He was a Benjaminite by tribe.

According to the Book of Samuel in the Hebrew Bible, Saul was the son of Kish, of the family of the Matrites, and a member of the tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve Tribes of Israel. It appears that he came from Giv'ah.
As king, he had none. Saul was the first Hebrew king.
King Saul was from the tribe of Benjamin because the book of Samuel says he was from the tribe of Benjamin. There is no reference anywhere in the Bible to King Saul being from the Tribe of Judah.
