Madagascar has only recently become increasingly involved in foreign affairs (since about the early 21st century). Madagascar is an active member in many regional organizations, such as the African Union, the Indian ocean Commission, and the Non-Aligned Movement.

Despite being a member of the Non-Aligned Movement, Madagascar has great relations with the US. The government has expressed its desire to remain top notch relations with the United States. For example, the US sends much relief to Madagascar.
