Delaware was colonized by the English, so the colonial language was English.
George Washington, though John cabot was the first to set foot on land there.
Delaware itself wasn't a colony. It was part of a much larger area colonized by the Dutch, Swedes, and Finns at different times. William Penn purchased what is now Delaware from the Duke of York. He annexed it to Pennsylvania and called it "the three lower counties". Penn was a Quaker, and tolerated all religions, so Delaware was a melting pot.
Henry Hudson is credited with the discovery of the area which is now Delaware. In 1631, the first colony of Delaware was established. However, by 1632, that colony had been raided by natives, who killed all the settlers, and set fire to their buildings. In 1638, it was colonized by a Swedish group, then taken over by the Dutch. It was then taken over by the British, who seized the territory without a fight. Delaware was part of a land grant, given to Quaker, William Penn.
The English colonies had many enemies. Usually, they were the natives of the colonized land or other empires. In the case of the American colonies, England became their enemy.
