According to recent archaeological findings in 2009, and conclusions drawn from the evidence uncovered in the ancient Egyptian capital of Hierakonpolis. It is believed that a large wild animal menagerie existed about 3500 B.C. The animals that have been recovered to date include 2 elephants showing evidence of hand feeding, 3 hippos and a baby hippo, 10 dogs, a hartebeest, a cow with calf, 11 baboons, and 6 wildcats. The total number of animals found currently is 112, and there is more evidence of veterinarian work performed as with a wildcat, baboon, and a hippo, each with signs of bone fractures that would have only healed with profound support, and plenty of time in a protected environment.
