You vote for the person you feel is best qualified to do the job. You don't vote by race or religion. Every race and religion and ethnicity has good people and bad people, well-qualified people and poorly qualified people. You vote on your own best judgment of who is best suited to the office.

I would hope so and I believe many would vote for the most qualified candidate, despite their religious preference. Sadly, however, there will always be people who would vote for someone less-qualified because of a person's religion.

The Roman assemblies and magistrates were totally different. The popular assemblies gathered to vote on laws, which was done directly by the people. The magistrates were the officers of state, or executive officers. There were five types of such offices and each acted independently within the remit of their office. There was not a centralised executive.

The popular vote is when the people vote for the president. in actuallity the people don't elect the president. the electorial college do. they win states with the popular vote then the delegates from those states vote for the candidate their state chooses.
