More than 3000 years ago the Olmec and Teotihuacan civilizations founded the Mesoamerican religion, which included several deities in its Pantheon akin to the Greek religion; the belief in cycles of life and regeneration and the need to offer human sacrifice to preserve such cycles. This religion evolved throughout the years, switching names of its gods depending to the local culture, either Aztec or Mayan.

Since 1521 when Spanish conquistadors conquered most of the Americas, Roman Catholicism became the prevalent religion, up to this very day.
