Czar Nicholas II, of course. he abdicated under fire ( from the Mensheviks, originally the moderate Kerensky govt) and it is true for a brief period, his Brother, the Grand Duke Michael, assumed the title of Czar. Michael was then in the field with the Army and he was subsequently killed in the revolution, hence never reigned. It is belived Michael"s death was a normal battle death, not a planned assasination as was the case with Nicholas and the grim ( Family Plan Homicide).
