Most people pick their location due to the type of life they live. For example, sheep or cattle station owners (the equivalent of American ranchers) will want to live in the outback where there is more room for their sheep or cattle, and a fisherman will want to live by the shore.

The majority of Australia's population lives along the eastern and southern coast. Here, both the land and the climate are the best, and it is where the major cities are located. Within the cities are the businesses, shoping centres and headquarters for the big corporations.

Much of the inland is either desert or the semi-arid area of the outback, where hundreds of square kilometres are required to support a single station owner.
