Probably because it was true. Jesus was born Jewish and was raised in the Jewish beliefs. Christians didn't come along until after Jesus had died.

Answer

Jews consider a Jew anyone who was born ofa Jewish mother, so as far as physical descent is considered, Our Blessed Lord was a Jew. Spiritually, anyone who is a "child of Abraham" and worships the one true God could be considered a Jew. All of the first Christians were Jews, and Christianity is nothing other than Judaism fulfilled, we believe the Our Blessed Lord was the promised Messiah that God had promised.
