Ghana finds it difficult to become self reliant because she lacks skilled personnel in the form of scientists, researchers, engineers who will transform the country's resources for the socio-economic developments in the country. This is because our educational system is bad, we only learn the theory aspects and we have ignore the vocational and technical training.

Self-reliant in its’ simplest meaning refers to the stage at which the control, handling, managing or directing of an individuals’ affair is solely dependent on the individual. Being self-reliant is a very positive move by any individual who want to progress in any field or endeavor.

Ghana as an independent state, has reached a stage that, she must be self-reliant. There are a lot of graduates who have acquired knowledge but their knowledge is not being utilized.

Most basic things that need to be manufactured or constructed are normally given to foreigners to handle whiles we have brains which could do the same Job. Because we are not self-reliant, we are in the rush to seek for foreign support in the slightest occasion, and this is very bad for Ghana as a sovereign nation. It's time we need to be confident in ourselves and believe our people. Support each other in the progress of the nation.

Being self- reliant by individual even commands a lot of respect from people around you, therefore can you imagine a whole country like Ghana being self-reliant? You can imagine the pride that will come with it.

No country can be absolutely self-reliant due to the fact that, we live in a global world where each country might need the assistance of the other in some regards. This does not mean that, one should not learn to be self-dependent.

In situations like global pandemic, where will you run to for basic assistance, if you have not developed yourself to stand on your feet at all times.

Ghana as a nation is greatly blessed with a lot of Natural Resources which when properly managed will be of great benefits and can serve as an asset to the citizenry.

Ghana is not only blessed with natural resources but she is also blessed with human resources but it unfortunate these resources are not well utilized.

In terms of economic gains, it really important to appreciate the fact of being self-reliant. If you cannot handle your own resources, how then can you manage the returns out of your resources?

Employing the services of expatriate, on major projects which you could get same expert in the country to undertake, simply means you are giving you proceeds to be taken out of your country. This is because these expatriate are paid in US Dollars, meanwhile the currency for Ghana is Ghana Cedis. So can you imagine the exchange rate difference?

Moreover most of the equipment they work with are imported from their country and cleared at a concession or even at no charges depending on the nature of work, they are to undertake. Not being self-reliant can never be an achievement

If Ghana is self-reliant and faces challenges, she will definitely be out of the struggles after times of enough experience. This can be counted as an achievement.
