Brian Boru 941-1014 was a great Irish warrior. He was the High King of Ireland who died in the battle of Clontarf 1000 years on Good Friday and was buried in Armagh.

Many GAA clubs are called after him, Fermanagh (Kinawley), Tipperary (Clogheen Ladies, Annacarty-Donohill hurlers, and Brian Boru Camogie Club), Westmeath (Ballymore), Leitrim (Gorvagh), Pennsylvania (Philadelphia Hurling Club), Oregon (Portland Hurling Club), Cork (Shanballymore), Roscommon (Strokestown), Dublin (Clontarf, and Brian Boru's Handball), Antrim (Cushendun) and Clare (Cratloe-Killaloe)
