The oldest, original parts of Philadelphia border the Delaware River, which forms the eastern boundary of Pennsylvania. That leaves literally no space left for an area called "East Philadelphia." That said, Camden, NJ is sometimes colloquially referred to as "East Philly," largely due to its location directly East across the river from Philadelphia and the large number of visitors who travel between the two cities for work and tourism purposes.
