There are three main challenges that will define the future of Texas-Mexico relations:
Current Mexican-American population in Texas is growing exponentially: by 2050, 30% of the US population will be "Hispanic" and will be concentrated on California, Arizona, New Mexico and of course, Texas. This will represent a big challenge, specially to the white "minority" which by that time will represent only 49% of the total population.
Climate change may affect weather patterns in Mexico to the extreme, making vast areas of such country barren deserts that cannot support life. This would probably mean an increase in illegal immigrants, now fleeing from natural disasters instead of looking for economic opportunities.
Finally, the Mexican War on Drugs that is already spilling into US territory. With such conflict growing south of the border, it is probable that many politicians will ask for intervention from the federal government; even troops if necessary.
Texas fought against Mexico between 1835 and 1836. This conflict is known as the Texas Revolution.
Texas split up from Mexico and became an independent republic. This conflict is known as the Texas Revolution or the Texas war of independence.
The annexation of Texas plus the border conflict called the Thornton Affair.
Mexico considered Texas as part of its own territory. All the history between the Republic of Texas and Mexico was fraught with disagreements and conflict. Having Texas as part of the US, however was too much to bear for Mexico. The situation soon became a war between the USA and Mexico.
