The town of Middle Plantation in Virginia was later named Williamsburg
Colonial Williamsburg is a historical area with buildings dating from 1699 to 1780. Restoration and recreation of the entire colonial town recreated the atmosphere and ideals of 18th century Americans.
Colonial Williamsburg is a tourist attraction, not a functioning community although it does contain part of the campus of William and Mary University which is still a real, functioning school. In colonial times however, Williamsurg was regarded as a city by North American standards, having a population in the tens of thousands.
Jamestown on the James River was the capital of the Virginia colony until 1699, at which time the capital became Williamsburg.
Richmond is the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

George Washington's home town was Colonial Beach (as what it is known today), Westmoreland County in Virginia. This is where he was born. But he did spend a lot of his childhood days in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
