Oklahoma has been traditionally regarded as an agricultural region (wheat, beef, dairy products). Since many farms require cheap laborers, Mexican immigrants have helped work the fields.

However, besides the fact that part of Oklahoma once belonged to Mexico, it has received very few Mexican immigrants, consisting of only 8.9% of the state population. For example, 38% of California's population is of Hispanic origin, and 31% of the 37 million Californians are of Mexican ancestry.
