Conquest. Britain had an empire which expanded across the globe. Britain continues to keep possession of the Falklands for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that they possessed it long before Argentina gained independence and the ability to make a claim to the islands, and also because a majority of the population are descendants of Scottish settlers who came to the island, and their loyalties lie with the UK.
