How do you measure distance in Google Earth?

Here is the way to generate an elevation profile between two points on Earth, which gives you a fair approximation in the altitude differences.

Click Add on the Google Earth Menu bar, and select the Path . Or alternately you'll do the same thing by pressing the combination of Ctrl+Shift+T.

A New path dialogue box appears for you to enter the Name of Path you want to designate and write some description for the same.

Then browse to any location of your interest and click at a place and release the mousse button and go to another place and click and release the mouse button. You'll see a line drawn connecting these two selected points.

Now, click OK on the bottom of the New Path dialogue box, to close it.

On the left side menu go to places and right click on the Path you created and select Show Elevation Profile to see the graph displaying the cross section of the path between the selected two points.

Just mouse over the graph to find the various elevations of the points on the given path from the first point to the second point.

If you simply want to measure the distance between two points on the ground (either in a straight line or a path) Google Earth provides a Ruler tool. The Ruler can be found under the Tools menu or in the toolbar (ruler icon). Select the ruler then click on two points on the ground.

Google Earth has a Ruler tool that can be accessed in the toolbar or Tools menu. When enabled, you can measure a line or a path and use units in feet, meters, miles, km, etc.

In Google Earth, you can measure:

• Line: the distance between two points on the map
• Path: the distance between multiple points on the ground

In Google Earth Pro, you can also measure:

• Circumferences using circles
• Other areas using polygons
• 3D buildings

Once you’ve taken a measurement, you can save it to “Places” in the left-hand panel.
