I am pretty sure cruise ships are built in dry docks where they can be flooded to float the ships. This is something i saw on Discovery channel on tv. Once the ship is complete they can flood the dock to float the ship to the ocean.
Why not? Ships are typically able to dock on either side depending on the port facilities available. Some cruise ships may be better designed to handle their passengers and cargo from one side or the other, but that is dependent on the design.
Yes, cruise ships commonly dock in areas where the tourists can spend several hours shopping. Also, there is shopping typically available on the ship.
You can't cruise from New York to London. The cruise ships dock in Southampton which is about 80 miles southwest of London.
Cruise lines do not often have ships that are not being used. When the heavy cruise season ends at one place in the world, it is usually just beginning in another. Most ships do have a time every few years when they are in what is called "dry dock" when they make minor repairs or renovations. Dry dock can be anywhere in the world, not necessarily in the port of origin, and can last anywhere from a couple of weeks to a year (depending on the extent of damage or how lavish the renovation is). Otherwise, it is very unusual for a cruise ship to sit idle. When passengers leave from one cruise, the next set of passengers is on the boat in a matter of just a few hours.
yes ships dock their boats at the harbor.
I am a Caymanian and i live here in Cayman and go to school here. Cruise Ships do not come EVERY day. But most of the time they do. Its pretty rare when you drive into town and see the waterfront empty. The most Ive seen of Cruise Ships a day is Seven.
