A "sought-after invitation" is an invitation to an important event that many people would like to attend but very few will be able to. For example: an invitation to a White House Dinner would be a sought after invitation, as would an invitation to a film premiere in Cannes. I have yet to get an invitation to either, but I sure would like one!

To accept a lunch invitation, respond promptly and express your appreciation for the invitation. You can say something like, "Thank you for inviting me to lunch! I’d love to join you." Confirm the time and place if it's not already clear, and let the inviter know you're looking forward to it.
Dearest (insert name) Thankyou for your kind invitation to attend your dinner party. I / My wife and I / My husband and I / etc. would very much love to accept and that time certainly works just fine for us. Is the food planned out, or would you like us to bring a dish? See you on the 9th! Warmest Regards Graham and Marjorie
An invitation letter is exactly like what it sounds like it would be. This letter invites you to be somewhere or do something.
R.S.V.P. stands for a French phrase, "répondez, s'il vous plaît," which means "please reply." The person sending the invitation would like you to tell him or her whether you accept or decline the invitation.
