Eleanor of Aquitaine was the daughter of William X, the Duke of Aquitaine. He was rich enough that she had private tutors.

There were 3 kinds of schools in the Middle Ages. All were run by the Roman Catholic Church. The elementary song-school, the monastic school and the grammar school. The song school is where young boys were taught to sing Latin hymns and songs. IF the priest running it was educated enough they might learn to read and write. The monastic school was training for the church (first son inherited, the rest become monk or priests). The grammar school was to teach boys Latin grammar. Females of high ranking officials would be allowed to attend a FEW and SELECT courses.

The University of Paris was one of the first in Europe and was founded in 1150. Eleanor was 28 by that time. She had been married to Louis VII of France for 13 years by that time.

The University of Bordeaux (near Aquitaine) was founded in 1447. Long after she died.
