Navy recruiters do not work for you, they work for the Navy--you are nothing more to them than a number and they will promise you the world to get you to sign. That's just the way they roll.

It is possible for a recruit in the Delayed Entry Program to ship to boot camp over their maximum weight allowance as long as they are within their allowable body fat percentage. According to the newest change to COMNAVCRUITCOMINST 1130.8H, the Navy Enlisted Recruiting Manual, a person in DEP has a 3% excessive body fat allowance for accession. That allowance is 25% for males and 36% for females. The recruit will still need to meet Navy retention standards of 22% for males and 33% for females before they can graduate boot camp.

That is how the SEALs obtains members. You are not recruited into the SEALs from the beginning, typically you have to complete boot camp and have additional specialties before being eligible to apply for SEAL training. Your recruiter should be able to help you understand the process.
