During the initial push into Iraq, the units in front were scout units - they had cooks who were further ahead of the line than infantry units. It all depends on a number of factors, such as your unit, your timing in arriving in that unit, etc. If you get assigned to the Old Guard, you're not going to be deployed while you're with that unit. If you arrive at a unit just after they've gotten back from a deployment, it'll be a while before they're going to redeploy.
