'a word' = 'una palabra'

To spell out a word in Spanish, you need to know the names of the letters of the Spanish alphabet.

'a', for example, is written 'a', pronounced 'ah'

'b' is 'be', pronounced 'bay'

'c' is 'ce' pronounced 'say' in Latin America, 'thay' in Spain ('th' as in 'thin')

and so on. No point in giving the entire alphabet unless you request it!
