James Madison was born into a wealthy Virginia family. He attended Princeton University and attended the first Virginia state convention in 1776. He was the youngest member of the Continental Congress and was one of the leaders who wanted to get the Articles of Confederation changed. At the Constitutional Convention, his plan became the center of the discussion for creating a new Constitution, and because of the massive notes he kept, he became known as the Father of the Constitution. He was one of the three authors who wrote The Federalist Papers and worked to get the Constitution ratified. He led the opposition to the Alien and Sedition Acts of Adams by writing the Virginia Resolutions. He became Secretary of State under Jefferson.
