An invalid is a person who is disabled severely. Invalids is often a derogatory word now-a-days. An invalid is not capable of doing things by theirs elves often whether it be mental or physical issues. An invalid has to rely on others to help them. Asthma in this scenario meant he could not breathe easily, nor could he have much physical activity. This is not as much of an invalid as you can do things without relying on others, you just need to be careful.
