Yes and no. First, it should be noted that politicians during a grueling campaign will stumble or have a slip of the tongue. Partisans will leap on these mistakes immediately and say they "prove" something bad about the candidate. The truth is usually far more nuanced. In this case, the incident occurred during the 2008 campaign, and yes, during an interview, Barack Obama said he had been to all 57 states. This immediately aroused partisans on both sides. Some of his opponents said he was referring to the number of Muslim states (the rumor was that he was a secret Muslim; but as snopes.com pointed out, there are more than 57 Muslim states or countries-- 60 is the accepted number).
Some of his supporters, as well as people who have been involved in campaigns, said this was much ado about nothing: he was tired, he said 57 instead of 47, and people sometimes make mistakes when they are speaking. Whichever interpretation you believe, there is no evidence that Mr. Obama doesn't know how many states there are, since he frequently refers to the states he has visited. I enclose the link to the explanation from snopes.com.
Obama is the 44th president. It will be a while before we reach number 57.
He meant to say "47 states". While in Oregon, he said "I have been in 57 states. I think I have one more left to go." He went on to explain that he'd been unable to visit Alaska and Hawaii. He latter blamed the gaffe on drowsiness.
Not yet, his birth date is August 4, 1961.
Nope -- that's silly.
There are only 50 states, even though Obama claimed to have visited all 57.
she said Africa is a country. she prob. wears glasses to look a bit smarter. Anyone can make a mistake..Obama said there were 57 states.
I think you are referring to a slip of the tongue Mr. Obama made during the 2008 campaign, when he said he had been to all 57 states. In reality, he certainly knows how many states there are, but like all candidates, he has made his share of mistakes when speaking. This happens to every candidate, especially during a presidential race, when you are getting little sleep and doing hundreds of appearances and interviews. Both John McCain in 2008 and Mitt Romney in 2012 made their share of slips of the tongue, and Mr. Obama had a few too. Sadly, the media like to focus on these "gaffes" and replay them over and over. But all they prove is that candidates are human and sometimes they mis-speak.

Obama may have meant 47, not 57. And according to him, Obama is a Christian. He did, however, once imply that his Koran schooling in Indonesia might make him a more acceptable mediator in dealings with the Middle East. When political rhetoric or expediency is involved, one should never take politicians at face value. Often they will appear to support both sides of a contentious issue.
When it became a state in 1788 there was no US President.
Purple states are states in the United States that do not consistently vote for either the Democratic or Republican party in elections. These states are considered competitive and can swing either way in terms of political affiliation.
he is 57 and he's birthday is coming up soon.
