*Chance to demonstrate leadership. When one sees an analyst on the news, who keeps the title of marine officer, it lends a credibility to that person that he or she might not otherwise have.

You get yelled at every day, little to no money. you get shot at, basically the only good thing is the bad medical care and bad dental that you pay $7.26 for these poor services.

Yes . . . and you also learn what it is to be part of a band of brothers. You may never see your bunk mates again after your term, but you'll always remember them. You know that they got your back, and they know the same of you. You know that they won't turn tail and run and leave your wounded body...they'll bring you back.

Semper Fi . . . always faithful. You will learn what that means. To be faithful to an ideal, not just a commander. To know beyond all rhyme or reason why you fight, live, and/or die by the UCMJ. To know why you scorn others who cannot fathom what it is to be a Marine.

To be broken of your civilian sloppy ways, to be built up in the image of a fighting man, to have pride in being in something that is greater than you. To become proficient in the art of warfare. Make no mistake, warfare is an art and there are few who do it well. The Marines do it well.

An elite corps, the Marines are the ones who are directly answerable to the Commander in Chief and essentially they are his personal shock troops. It is a tight knit group who are generous, loyal, and have an esprit de corps that is not quite like any other branch of the service.

Can you cut it as a Marine? Maybe, maybe not. If you have what it takes to endure the crap, you might be fit to become a leader of men...A Marine.
