This answer applies to the United States, however, it may fit with military forces of other nations. What the US Army can offer to its soldiers, is almost the same as other branches of the US military. Here are some of the

benefits service in the US Military can offer to its members:

A. People who did not acquire the educational skills in school that are needed to qualify for a job can enlist in the military and enroll in the various educational resources offered there and get a "second chance" to learn either basic skills or technical skills in various fields that serve the military and the private or public sectors of the US economy when their enlistment is over.

B. While they are learning, they have food and shelter.( sadly, this is not always possible for people in lower socio-economical groups of people in the private sector).

C. Physical health is important to anyone's over well being. In the military a person will exercise almost everyday. This should be carried on to a limited degree when a person's enlistment is over.

D. Honorable discharge papers will help any person find employment in the private or public sectors of the economy.

E. Military veterans can apply for special mortgage programs that are better than ordinary mortgage applications.

F. Soldiers are paid and they can apply to have a portion of their pay placed in programs that the military may match. Upon discharge, these funds can be applied to the costs of additional education.

G. Soldiers so inclined can make the military a career choice. Promotional programs exist and a soldier can move up in rank and in pay.

H. The military life forces a person to understand how descipline can be used to their advantage.

There is a risk being a member in the US military. Soldiers may find themselves in war situations. They are informed of this before they become enlisted members of the armed forces.
