Although Roosevelt found time to relax at his home in Oyster Bay, NY, Roosevelt found fewer and fewer people came calling as time went on. For a man who sought and enjoyed being the center of attention, life was somewhat boring for him in this quiet setting before too long. Roosevelt traveled and went on a well-known hunting trip in Africa after William Howard Taft was elected in 1908, and his list of animals killed is lengthy. In 1912, Roosevelt decided to run for President again, this time under his own party called the Progressive Party / Bull Moose Party. He did so because he wanted to be president, but also to seek some revenge against Taft. Republican votes were split between Roosevelt and Taft. Woodrow Wilson won the election. Roosevelt also went on a famous hunting trip in the Amazon, an adventure that nearly killed him. His health never fully recovered. Roosevelt's son Quentin was shot down over France in World War I, which was emotionally devastating to him. Roosevelt died not long after, on January 6, 1919.
