It should be to have their voices heard and give their opinion of how government should be run, and by whom.

I am not sure what you want to know. The primaries are elections and the one with the most votes wins. In most states, people can vote in either primary , but not both.
In a direct primary you vote for people running to be their party's nominee. In an indirect primary, you vote for electors or delegates who will later select the party's nominee.
Depends on the primary: if they state allows for people who are not registered Republicans or Democrats to vote in the primary then you are allowed.

The reason to vote is you need to elect people to represent you in the government. Not voting is not an answer to solving problems, but voting makes you part of the solution.
Most high-income people vote; most low-income people do not.
