People CAN participate in a democratic government, but regrettably, many people do nothing at all. Here is a partial list of ways people can be involved:

• Watch the news to understand world and a country's current events.
• Discuss politics with family and friends.
• Pay attention to what political candidates say.
• Read editorials and listen to debates about candidates.
• Carefully weigh each candidates position.
• If interested, volunteer for a candidate or political party. Become involved.
• Donate to a candidate's campaign.
• TELL office holders your opinions.
• Peacefully protest current leaders when there are significant reasons to protest. Demonstrations (sign holding; chanting; marching; picketing) is one of the oldest forms of political protest.
• Start grassroots efforts to oust leaders, or to change "politics as usual" positions.
• Register to vote, even as undeclared party choice.
• At election time, DO vote.
• Don't just re-vote someone into office. Consider their actions and think about their opponents.
• A "no" vote (not selecting a person) is just as important sometimes as a "yes" vote for just anyone!
• A Ballot is not a "guess test"--- Guessing can often cause voters problems when they vote for "wrong" candidates. If you don't know the name, look them up online, read what newspapers say about the candidate. Only vote with knowledge and information. But DO vote.
• If you move, update your voter registration information, just like renewing your driver's license. It only takes a couple minutes to do.
• Become involved at local and State government. KNOW your Representatives and Senators. Tell them your views.
• Don't be afraid to vote for a newcomer.
• Don't be afraid to "fire" who is in office now.
